A busy July for the team

Written by Sevenoaks CFRs on Tuesday, 28 July 2015

July is almost over  - does time fly when you are having fun!  A busy month for the team this month as ever, called out to incidents every day in the Sevenoaks area being first on scene for various 999 calls including: a cardiac arrest following an electrocution, individuals with breathing difficulties, suspected strokes and some trips and falls.  We have been working with our colleagues in both SECamb and the private ambulance services that support the trust in addition to the Kent, Sussex & Surrey Air Ambulance.

Two training sessions this month with SECAmb staff to improve our knowledge and also equip us with additional life saving equipment and also shift on ambulances and paramedic cars "third manning". We really appreciate the time our full time colleagues give up to help us develop and maintain our knowledge levels.

In addition to that various fundraising initiatives are underway. We were shortlisted to be Sainsburys in Sevenoaks Charity of the year. Thank you to everyone who voted for us. Sadly for us on this occasion they selected another very worthy charity  - West Kent Mind, we know they will spend every penny wisely on essential services.

We also had the opportunity of meeting one our Local MP's  - Tom Tugendhat who came and met us one saturday morning to learn more about our work and how he might be able to support us. A really productive discussion and we appreciated him giving up time on a saturday.

As we head into August the responder phones remain busy, but we are pleased to announce a new member of the team - Jonathan has just passed his training and assessments and will be on the road in the west of the district later this week.  We are still seeking new responders so if you are interested please get in touch via our website. You need to be 21 years old, possess your own vehicle ( although we may be able to assist with that). You don't require any previous medical experience or knowledge as full training and mentoring will be given.

Have a fantastic school holiday season, remember to stay hydrated and cover up with the sun block!  No one likes to see a human lobster in A&E

For life-threatening emergencies it's 999

Call 111 when it's less urgent than 999
